About Us
The Alpaca Company has been breeding alpacas, selling fine fleeces, and assisting new alpaca breeders since 1991. We are members of the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association (AOBA) and the Missouri Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association (MOPACA) which we started with a few other breeders in 1994. All of our alpacas are ARI (Alpaca Registry, Inc.) registered.
When Diane and I started The Alpaca Company in 1990 at our farm in Columbia, we felt the sense of wonder new alpaca breeders often report. There were only 3,000 alpacas in the U.S. then and the herd has grown at a good rate since then. Last year, ARI, Inc. registered it’s 100,000th alpaca.
Alpacas are gentle and intelligent. They provide a center of calm in our busy lives. They are earth-friendly, easy to care for, and most of them are good with children. There’re always a few outliers!
Alpaca breeders are a friendly lot. There are about 3,000 of us in North America. We will be happy to help you join this special group of people with information on animal selection, farm layout, breeding and health care, feeding, and shearing. We welcome visitors! Please call first.
